Chris Kerr

Chris Kerr

Owner & Senior Accountant

Prior to starting Kerr & Company, Chris started his career working for a smaller, boutique accounting firm followed by a large international accounting firm where he focused on small business and taxation while completing his CGA. In addition, Chris held the position of Chief Financial Officer for a publicly listed mining company.

Chris graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1999 earning a Bachelor of Arts and completing a Diploma in Accounting where he also played Varsity Hockey for the UBC Thunderbirds.

He also proudly serves on the board of directors for the Kelowna Minor Hockey Association and the Okanagan Mental Health Services Society.

An active family man, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, playing hockey, hiking, and skiing.

Debbie Baird

Accounting Technician

Debbie has been working in the accounting profession for about 40 years, most of this in public practice. While Debbie wears a “jack of all traits” hat around the office, she leads the bookkeeping department and helps out with year-ends and both corporate and personal. She grew up in Enderby and now resides in Kelowna with her husband John for the last 25 years. She has 5 boys and 6 grandchildren. In her spare time Debbie likes to make cards (Christmas, birthday, retirement etc.).

Adan Velasquez

Adan Velasquez

Junior Accountant

Adan grew up in Edmonton Alberta and moved to Kelowna in 2017. He is currently enrolled in Okanagan College’s accounting program and hoping to pursue CPA designation once he graduates. Adan’s background includes working in construction where he incorporated and managed a property development company.

In his free time, Adan enjoys hanging out with his friends at the lake, hiking, going on trips and exploring BC, snowboarding, and playing Mahjong.

Office Manager/Administrator

Chelsea was born and raised in Surrey, British Columbia, and moved to West Kelowna in December 2018. She has been with Kerr & Company as the Office Manager/Administrator since she was still in the HOST Accounting Program at Okanagan College. Chelsea started with us as a practicum student, ended up completing her practicum and program early, and has been with the company ever since. Her prior experience includes 9 years of customer service, with two of those years in the hospitality and wine industry, and almost 7 as management/supervisor roles in retail.

On her days off she enjoys spending time with her new Schnoodle puppy, Billy, picking up a good book, cooking with others, and spending time with her friends doing various activities.

Anu Rehal

Anu Rehal

Senior Accountant

Anu was born in the Northern part of India and has been calling British Columbia home since April 2013. She has over 8 years of experience in accounting, working various positions as accountant within the industry and started her public practice as staff accountant in a small boutique accounting firm. She is currently working towards her CPA designation, is in the last phase of the journey, having written her CFE in September 2022.

When she’s not at work, Anu likes to go hiking, pick up a good book, and go on road trips with friends and family.

Elaine Murray

Manager - Accounting & Tax

Elaine grew up in Prince George and moved to Kelowna in 2021. She comes from a background of customer service and several years in public practice with a degree in accounting and finance. She has taken all the necessary courses required for the CPA designation and is currently working towards passing the CFE. She is most excited about all the time she will have upon completion of the CPA designation.

Elaine spends her free time skiing with family, hanging out at the lake, and going on road trips with her fiancé. She most recently travelled to Bali.

Jhonnell Wallace

Jhonnell grew up in Jamaica and moved to Kelowna as an international student in 2014 to continue her studies in accounting at Okanagan College. She has been in the accounting field since 2017 doing bookkeeping, as well as helping with preparation of personal and corporate taxes. She has always been passionate about numbers and problem solving and wishes to further her education in accounting and one day earn her CPA designation.

In her spare time, Jhonnell enjoys spending time with her fiancé and son, hanging out with friends and going on adventures to explore British Columbia.

Resident Office Dog

Smartie is our resident office dog, having come from Mexico to Kelowna in December 2021. Although he might come across shy at first when you meet him, he is instantly won over if he knows you have another pet at home, or if you give him treats (he loves Milk Bones). He is usually busy during the day playing fetch, following other accountants around the office, and getting scratches.

In Smartie’s spare time, he enjoys various active adventures with Chris. He also enjoys going on walks, watching ducks, playing with his toys, having lots of naps, chasing his tail and randomly coming up to you to give kisses so he can get treats.

Elisa accidentally received a temporary two week job job with the firm at the end of April 2020 but quickly decided she could not leave the wonderful team at Kerr & Company. She comes with years of experience in administration and bookkeeping. She started as administration support and moved into bookkeeping. She enjoys building positive relationships with clients. She is finishing her BBA (accounting) and then she will pursue her CPA designation.

In what little spare time she has she is a competitive swimmer and enjoys relaxing with friends playing cards or board games.

Benita B. Saxen

Bookkeeping Manager

Bridging solutions for businesses is a passion of Benita’s. With her background in public relations / journalism, computer technologies, and accounting / bookkeeping, building effective systems to maximize results matter. Benita has managed several of her own businesses and understands the puzzles in the real world. Her educational background with teaching students in accounting and business courses helps her to leverage and build teams. People matter for Benita and business is about building these relationships of trust. In her free time, she loves to write fiction and learn about the latest success strategies.

Kayoko Kudo

Kayoko Kudo

Bookkeeper

Kayoko grew up in Japan, and moved to Kelowna 20 years ago. She previously attended Okanagan College, completing her accounting and bookkeeping courses there. Her prior experience includes administration, editing and customer service.

In her free time away from the office, she enjoys spending quality time with her children, being active and playing tennis, snowboarding, going shopping, and loves baking.
